Digital Baby Shower Invitations: Costs, Tools, Wording
How digital baby shower invitations work, what they cost versus paper, how to send them by WhatsApp or text, and how to collect RSVPs from one link.

Planning an event?
Invyt handles your RSVPs so you can focus on the celebration — not the spreadsheet.
Try Invyt free →A digital baby shower invitation is an invitation delivered as a link or message rather than printed stationery, with the RSVP built into the same page. For 30 guests it costs nothing on most free tiers, against roughly $110 to $200 for printed invitations with response cards and two-way postage.
The savings are the obvious part and the least interesting part. The real difference is that a link can ask a question. A printed card cannot tell you that four guests are vegetarian, one is bringing a toddler, and eleven have not answered yet.
What Counts as a Digital Invitation
Three things get called digital invitations, and they behave very differently.
An image you send. A JPEG or PDF designed in Canva and sent by text. It looks good and it collects nothing. Replies arrive in whatever channel you sent it through, which means five channels.
An email invitation. Delivered to an inbox, sometimes with a reply button. Open rates for personal email sit well below messaging apps, and a shower invitation is competing with a promotions tab.
An event page with a link. One URL that renders as a card in messaging apps, opens to the full invitation, and carries the RSVP form on the same page. This is the version worth using, because it is the only one that answers your headcount question without you asking it again.
The distinction matters more than the design. A beautiful invitation that sends you back to a group chat for replies has kept the hard part of paper and thrown away the pretty part.

The Actual Cost Comparison
Printed invitations have four cost lines, and hosts usually price only the first.
Postage is calculated at the USPS Forever stamp price of 82 cents, effective July 12, 2026. Square or wax-sealed envelopes carry a non-machinable surcharge on top of that, which is how a stylish invitation quietly becomes the most expensive one.
Two hidden costs do not show up in either column. Addressing 30 envelopes by hand takes two to three hours. Chasing replies that arrived in four different apps takes about the same again, spread across three weeks in five-minute pieces that are worse than one long session.
The hybrid version is usually the right call. Send printed cards to the five or six relatives who genuinely prefer paper, and a link to everyone else. You spend about $25 instead of $150, and nobody feels the change.
Which Channel to Send It Through
The delivery channel changes your reply rate more than the design does.
WhatsApp is the strongest option for most family groups, especially with relatives abroad. A link pasted into a chat renders a preview card showing the image, the title, and the date, so guests see the invitation inside the conversation without opening anything. Our WhatsApp digital invitation guide covers how those previews are generated and the two things that break them.
SMS or iMessage gets read fastest. It is the best channel for the reminder rather than the first send, because a text invitation has almost no room for the invitation itself.
Email works for coworkers and for anyone over 70 who checks email more reliably than messages. Put the essentials in the body text, not only in the image, because images are blocked by default in plenty of clients.
A group chat is tempting and costs you your reply rate. Everyone sees everyone else's response, three people say "yes!!" and then never formally reply, and you cannot tell who is confirmed. Send individually, or send to the group and still ask for replies through the link.
One rule across all four: send the link, not a screenshot of the link. A surprising number of invitations arrive as an image of a page nobody can tap.
What Your Invitation Has to Contain
The medium changes, the information does not. Seven items:
- Guest of honor
- Host, and how to reach them
- Date, start time, and an end time
- Venue with full address, or the word "virtual" and the platform
- RSVP deadline and one way to reply
- Registry link
- Whether children and partners are included
The end time is the one people cut for space and then regret. Without it guests stay until someone else leaves first, and at a shower nobody wants to be the first to go.
If you need the copy itself, our baby shower invitation wording examples has 40+ versions across formal, casual, co-ed, gender-neutral, and Spanish. For Zoom and hybrid showers, the virtual baby shower wording guide handles time zones and when to release the join link.
Ask the Right Questions at RSVP
This is the whole reason to go digital, and most hosts leave it switched off.
At the moment a guest taps yes, they are the most willing to answer questions they will ever be. Use it. Four fields:
- Attending, declined, or pending
- Total headcount, counting partner and children if they were invited
- Dietary restrictions and allergies
- One free-text note, which catches "arriving late" and "bringing my mum"
Ask these later and the reply rate collapses. A guest who has already said yes has closed the mental loop, and a follow-up asking about allergies gets answered by roughly four in ten people.
Keep it to four. Every extra field costs you completions, and a shower RSVP is not a survey.

Set the Deadline Two Weeks Out
Not one week. Two.
Your caterer or venue needs a final number, and their deadline usually falls before yours. A two-week RSVP deadline gives you a buffer to chase non-responders without doing it on the same day you are icing a cake.
Expect 20% to 30% of guests to miss the deadline anyway. Two follow-ups clear most of them: one message to everyone still pending on deadline day, then individual messages three days later from whoever knows those guests best. After that, count them as no.
What to Look for in a Tool
Most "free baby shower invitation" tools are design tools. They give you a beautiful image and no idea who is coming. That is a template, not an invitation.
The checklist that separates them:
Our comparison of free online invitation makers runs several tools against that list, and free online RSVP tools compared covers the tracking side specifically.
A Realistic Send Sequence
Six weeks out. Create the event page, add the registry link, set the RSVP deadline for two weeks before the shower. Send the link individually to tier-one guests first, so the people who matter most do not learn about the shower from a group thread.
Same day. Send to everyone else, split by channel: WhatsApp for family, text for close friends, email for coworkers and anyone who prefers it. Post the printed cards, if you are sending any.
Three weeks out. One light reminder to the pending list. Not a nag, a mention: the registry is live, here is the link again.
Deadline day. One message to everyone still pending.
Three days later. Individual messages to the last few, from whoever knows them.
One week out. Final count to the caterer, dietary list to the kitchen, run-of-show written.
The whole sequence sits inside our 12-week baby shower planning checklist, and the guest list decisions that feed it are covered in the baby shower guest list guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are digital baby shower invitations acceptable?
Yes, and they have been the majority choice for showers for several years. The only guests who reliably prefer paper are older relatives without smartphones. Send those four or five people a printed card and send everyone else a link, which costs less than printing the full set.
How do you send a digital baby shower invitation on WhatsApp?
Paste the invitation link into the chat and let the preview card render before you hit send. The preview shows the event image, title, and date inside the message, so guests see the invitation without opening anything. Send to individuals or a group, not a broadcast list.
What is the best free digital baby shower invitation?
The best free option is one that includes RSVP tracking, not just a design. A picture of an invitation still leaves you collecting replies by text. Look for a single shareable link, real-time responses, headcount, and a dietary question built into the reply.
How much cheaper are digital baby shower invitations?
For 30 guests, printed invitations with response cards run roughly $110 to $200 once printing and two-way postage are counted, at the July 2026 Forever stamp price of 82 cents. A digital invitation with RSVP tracking costs nothing on most free tiers.
Should the RSVP go through the invitation or a separate link?
Through the invitation. Every extra hop loses guests. If the invitation is an image and the RSVP is a separate form, expect a noticeably lower reply rate and a week of chasing. One tap from invitation to reply is the whole advantage of going digital.
