Halloween Party Invitation Wording: 40 Ideas to Copy
Halloween party invitation wording to copy: 40 messages for costume parties, adults-only nights, kids' parties, the office and the group chat, with 2026 dates.

Planning an event?
Invyt handles your RSVPs so you can focus on the celebration — not the spreadsheet.
Try Invyt free →Good Halloween party invitation wording does two jobs. The first line sets the mood, and the rest answers what guests would otherwise text you about: date and time, address, the costume rule, who they can bring and when you need a reply. Put the joke first and the details after it in plain words, because someone will forward only the part with the address.
Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday, October 31, the first Saturday Halloween since 2020, so your guests will get more than one invitation for that night. Send yours by Saturday, October 3 and ask for replies by Thursday, October 22.
Below are 40 messages to copy, grouped by party type and tone, plus the policy lines and reminders.
Short version: pick a message, add your date and address, and send it with one Halloween RSVP link that counts the yeses for you.
What to Write on a Halloween Party Invitation
A Halloween party invitation is a short message that gives the date, time and place, states the costume rule and asks guests to reply by a set date. For a house party it's usually a text with a link, not a printed card, so it has to read well on a phone.
The costume rule is the line people read twice. In the National Retail Federation's 2026 Halloween survey of 7,889 US consumers, 74% said they plan to celebrate and 50% plan to dress in costume. The other half are waiting for your invitation to tell them whether to bother.
Here's the whole thing as a fill-in template:
[Party name] at [host]'s on Saturday, October 31 at [time]. [Address]. [Costume rule]. [Plus-one or kids line]. Reply by [date] here: [link]
Give the costume rule a floor. "Costumes required" alone makes some people decline because they don't own one. "Cat ears and a black shirt count" shows them the cheapest way in.

Costume Party Invitation Wording
Say which of three rules applies before anything else: required, encouraged or optional. Then name the minimum that counts, so nobody stays home over a missing costume.
Costumes required
1. The firm one
Halloween at our place, Saturday, October 31, 8pm until late. Costumes required, no exceptions. Cat ears and a black shirt count, a plain hoodie does not. Reply by Oct 22: [link]
2. The costume contest
Costume party, Saturday the 31st at 8. Full costume, please. Prizes for best costume, best couple and most effort for the least money. Reply here by the 22nd: [link]
3. No costume, no punch
No costume, no punch. Halloween party at Leo's, Saturday, Oct 31, 8:30pm, 22 Birch Road. Masks are fine, face paint is better. RSVP by Thursday the 22nd: [link]
Costumes optional
4. Come as you are
Halloween drinks at my place, Saturday, October 31 from 8. Costumes optional. Come as yourself or as someone else, both welcome. Tap yes or no here: [link]
5. Encouraged, not enforced
Costumes encouraged, not enforced. If all you've got is a witch hat, wear the witch hat. Saturday, Oct 31, 7:30pm, 9 Harbor Lane. Reply by the 22nd: [link]
Themed costume parties
6. Decades
Dress as your favorite decade. Halloween at Jo and Sam's, Saturday, October 31, 8pm. Eighties prom, seventies disco, nineties grunge, all welcome. Reply by Oct 22: [link]
7. Masquerade
A Halloween masquerade. Saturday, October 31, 8pm. Black and gold, masks required, spares at the door. Cocktail attire under the mask. RSVP by October 22: [link]
8. Movie villains
Come as your favorite movie villain. Halloween at Priya's, Saturday the 31st, 8pm. Heroes will be turned away at the door. Kidding. Mostly. Reply by the 22nd: [link]
9. Couples and group costumes
Halloween party, Saturday, October 31 at 8. Couples and group costumes encouraged, so start plotting now. One plus-one each, add their name when you RSVP: [link]
Paired costumes are the usual reason a guest asks to bring someone. Decide your plus-one rule before you send, not when the first person asks.
Adults-Only Halloween Party Invitation Wording
Put "adults only" in the message itself, close to the date, not in a follow-up. One plain line prevents a dozen private conversations with parents. If you send the invitation through Invyt, turn kids off and switch on the adults-only note, which shows guests a "No Kids, Please" tag on the invite page when they RSVP.
10. Cocktails and costumes
Adults-only Halloween: cocktails, costumes and a playlist with zero Monster Mash. Saturday, October 31, 9pm until late. 31 Ash Court. Reply by Oct 22: [link]
11. The polite no-kids line
We love your kids, and this one's for grown-ups. Adults-only Halloween party, Saturday, October 31, 8:30pm. Book the sitter now, it's a Saturday and they go fast. RSVP by the 22nd: [link]
12. After trick-or-treat
Trick-or-treat with the kids, then come over once they're asleep. Adults-only Halloween, Saturday the 31st from 9pm. Costumes optional, a sitter is not. Reply by Thursday, Oct 22: [link]
13. Halloween dinner party
A Halloween dinner for eight. Saturday, October 31, 7:30pm. Candles, three courses, dark clothes or full costume, your call. Adults only. Tell me about any allergies when you reply by October 22: [link]
The sitter line in number 11 matters this year. On a Saturday Halloween, sitters book up early, and parents who can't find one decline.
Kids' Halloween Party Invitation Wording
Parents read a kids' party invitation for four answers: drop-off or stay, pickup time, food allergies and whether siblings can come. Answer all four and the replies come back without questions.
On Invyt, turn kids on and parents can add children separately from adults. Set a limit and the invite shows how many children each family can bring.
14. Little monsters
Calling all little monsters. Mia's Halloween party is Saturday, October 31, 2 to 4pm, 7 Oak Lane. Costumes encouraged. Drop-off is fine, pickup at 4. Reply by Oct 22: [link]
15. Before trick-or-treating
Halloween party for the kids before trick-or-treating. Saturday the 31st, 3:30 to 5:30pm. Pizza, crafts and a costume parade, then we all head out together at dusk. Parents welcome to stay. RSVP by the 22nd: [link]
16. Allergy-aware
Our house is nut-free for the party, and there's a teal pumpkin by the door with non-candy treats. Saturday, Oct 31, 2pm. Please tell me about any allergies when you RSVP: [link]
The teal pumpkin comes from FARE's Teal Pumpkin Project: non-food treats, such as glow sticks, so kids with food allergies leave with something too.
17. Siblings welcome
Siblings welcome, in costume or not. Add them when you RSVP so I make enough goody bags. Saturday, October 31, 3pm, 18 Pine Street: [link]
18. Halloween birthday
Leo turns 6 on Halloween, so the party is in costume. Saturday, October 31, 1 to 3pm at Hilltop Park, by the playground. Cake, a pumpkin hunt and a costume parade. Reply by Thursday the 22nd: [link]
If the birthday matters more than the holiday, our birthday party invitation wording has lines for every age.
19. Family party, all ages
Family Halloween party, all ages. Saturday, October 31, 4 to 7pm. Kids in costume, adults in whatever you like. Add your kids when you RSVP so I know how many hot dogs to buy: [link]

Funny Halloween Party Invitation Wording
Funny works when the facts survive the joke. Put the pun first and the date, time and address after it in plain words.
20. The ghosts want company
Our house is haunted and the ghosts want company. Halloween party, Saturday, October 31, 8pm, 12 Willow Court. Costumes encouraged. Reply by the 22nd so the ghosts can plan snacks: [link]
21. Bring your boo
Bring your boo, your best costume and your appetite. Halloween party at Sam's, Saturday the 31st, 8pm. RSVP by Oct 22, or I'll assume you've been abducted: [link]
22. The bonus hour
The clocks fall back at 2am, so Halloween night gets a bonus hour this year and we plan to use it. Saturday, October 31, 9pm onward. RSVP by the 22nd: [link]
That one is true in most of the US, where daylight saving time ends at 2am on Sunday, November 1. The UK and most of Europe change their clocks a week earlier, so skip this line there.
23. The only pun
You're invited to a spooktacular evening, and that is the only pun in this message. Saturday, October 31, 8pm, 4 Maple Drive. Costumes required. Reply by the 22nd: [link]
Spooky and Creepy Halloween Invitation Wording
For a horror theme, short beats clever. Two or three dark lines, then the details.
24. The summons
You have been summoned. Midnight is optional, 8pm is not. Saturday, October 31, 66 Hollow Road. Come in costume, come hungry, and confirm by October 22 that you'll come at all: [link]
25. The unlocked door
The candles will be lit at nine. The door will be unlocked. Halloween night, Saturday, October 31. Dress in black. Reply by the 22nd: [link]
26. The basement
Something is waiting in the basement. It's mostly snacks. Halloween party, Saturday, Oct 31, 8pm. Costumes required. RSVP: [link]
Short Halloween Invite Texts for the Group Chat
In a group chat, one message beats three. Put the date, time and link in the same message, because nobody scrolls up. Our guide to sending digital invitations via WhatsApp covers how to keep the link from getting buried.
27. The bare minimum
Halloween at mine, Sat Oct 31, 8pm. Costumes required. Yes or no here: [link]
28. The Saturday angle
Halloween is on a Saturday this year. Party at ours, 8pm. Tap the link so I know numbers: [link]
29. In or out
Costumes, punch, scary playlist. Sat the 31st, 8:30. In or out? [link]
30. The candy math
Halloween party, Oct 31, 8pm. Reply on the link by the 22nd so I buy the right amount of candy: [link]
Office Halloween Party Invitation Wording
With Halloween on a Saturday, the office party moves to Friday, October 30. Keep costumes optional, ask for faces to stay visible, and give colleagues who skip Halloween a reason to come that isn't the costume.
31. Costume lunch
Team Halloween lunch: Friday, October 30, 12:30, in the main kitchen. Costumes optional, work-appropriate, faces visible. The company is buying pizza. Reply by Tuesday the 27th so we order enough: [link]
32. Office costume contest
Costume contest at 3pm on Friday, October 30, in the break room. Three categories: scariest, funniest and best use of office supplies. Not dressing up? Come for the candy and the judging. RSVP: [link]
33. Remote team
Virtual Halloween hangout, Friday, October 30, 4pm Eastern. Costume, hat or just your camera on. Best spooky background wins a gift card. RSVP here and I'll send the call link: [link]
Haunted House, Scary Movie and Pumpkin Carving Invitations
Not every Halloween party needs costumes. The NRF survey puts watching scary movies (42%) level with carving pumpkins and decorating, so a movie night or a carving afternoon is a normal way to celebrate.
34. Haunted house
We've turned the garage into a haunted house. Saturday, October 31, tours every 15 minutes from 7pm. Ages 12 and up, it gets loud. Closed-toe shoes, please. Reply by Oct 22 so we can plan the groups: [link]
35. Scary movie night
Scary movie night: two films, one couch, too much popcorn. Saturday, October 31, 7pm, at Ana's. Costumes optional, blankets encouraged. Vote for the films in the chat and RSVP here: [link]
36. Pumpkin carving
Pumpkin carving party, Saturday, October 24, 3pm. We supply the pumpkins and the tools, you bring the ideas. Wear clothes you don't mind ruining. Reply by Oct 20 so I buy one pumpkin each: [link]
Plus-One, Kids and Reply-By Lines
Add one or two of these to any message above.
37. One plus-one each
One plus-one each. Add their name when you RSVP, costume partners included.
38. No plus-ones
Space is tight, so it's just the people in this chat. No plus-ones this year.
39. Kids welcome
Kids are welcome. Add them when you RSVP so I know how many little ghosts to feed.
40. Reply-by with a reason
Reply by Thursday, October 22 so I buy food for the people who are coming, not the people who said "maybe."
A deadline with a reason gets answers. "RSVP by the 22nd so I buy enough food" makes the date about their dinner, not your spreadsheet.
When to Send Halloween Party Invitations
Send them four weeks out, which is Saturday, October 3 for a party on the 31st, and ask for replies 7 to 10 days before. Guests need time to find a costume, and on a Saturday Halloween they're choosing between parties. Reading this later? Three weeks still works if the reply-by date is firm.
Our Halloween party planning guide has the six-week countdown, the food and the run of show. This is the message side of it:
If you added guests to your list by hand, Invyt shows who hasn't answered, and one tap opens WhatsApp with a reminder already written. You send it from your own phone, so swap in one of these lines first. Nothing goes out on its own.
The nudge:
Halloween is two weeks away and I'm buying food on the 24th. Can you tap yes or no by Thursday? Ten seconds: [link]
The day before:
See you tomorrow at 8. The address is on the invite. Street parking only, so leave a few minutes to find a spot.
Sending Your Halloween Invitation Through Invyt
Invyt has no Halloween template or spooky design. The invite page shows your event name, date, time, address and a cover photo, and the free invite has no message box. Your wording goes in the text you send with the link, which lands in the chat where your friends already are.
Five steps:
- Create the event. Add the name, date, time and address. Then pick a cover photo.
- Set the guest rules. Plus-ones on or off, with a limit per guest. Kids on, or off with the adults-only note showing. The dietary question if you're serving food, and a guest limit if your space has one.
- Copy the link and paste it at the end of your message.
- Send it by WhatsApp, iMessage, text, email or the group chat. On WhatsApp the link opens as a preview card. For a poster in a shared hallway, print the free QR code.
- Watch the headcount. Yeses, plus-ones and kids add up live. Once you reach your guest limit, Invyt stops taking yeses.
Guests open the link in any phone browser, with no app and no account. They tap yes or no, type their name, add a plus-one or kids if you allowed them, and answer the dietary question if you turned it on. There's no costume question or comment box, so ask who's coming as what in the chat.
It's free for up to 25 guests per event, which covers most house parties. Create your Halloween invitation, paste your message above the link and send it this weekend.
Once the costumes are back in the box, the next party on the calendar is Friendsgiving. Friendsgiving invitations work the same way as your Halloween party invitations: one message, one link, one headcount.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it rude to go to a Halloween party without a costume?
It depends on the invitation. If it says costumes are required, arriving in everyday clothes is rude to the host who asked. If costumes are optional or encouraged, you're fine. When you're unsure, wear something small, such as cat ears, a mask or face paint. It shows you read the invite and costs almost nothing.
What time should a Halloween party start?
For adults, 8 or 9pm, once trick-or-treating is over and kids are in bed. For kids, early afternoon or around 3:30pm, so the party ends before dark and families can still go trick-or-treating. Halloween 2026 is a Saturday with no work the next morning, so adult parties can start and finish later.
Can you send Halloween party invitations by text?
Yes. A text or group-chat message is the normal way to invite friends to a casual Halloween party. Keep it to one message with the date, time, address, costume rule and a reply-by date, and add an RSVP link so answers don't get lost in the thread. Save printed cards for formal parties or neighbors you don't text.
Should you mention a costume contest on the invitation?
Yes, if you're running one. A contest is the best reason guests put real effort into a costume, so name the categories and the prize in the invite. Two or more categories, such as scariest, funniest and best couple, give more people a chance to win and keep the night from feeling like an audition.
Can you have a Halloween party before October 31?
Yes. Many hosts pick the weekend before so guests stay free for the night itself. In 2026, Halloween is a Saturday, so the 31st is the obvious date, but Friday, October 30 or Saturday, October 24 compete with fewer parties. Put the full date in the first line so nobody shows up a week late.
How do you ask Halloween party guests to bring food or drinks?
Say what you're covering, then name the gap. "We've got pizza and punch, bring a snack or your own drinks" is enough. For a potluck, assign categories in the group chat so you don't end up with five bags of candy corn, and keep it optional for anyone who's traveling or short on money.
